A review of wild edible plants used as vegetables in Bingöl province
(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2025-07-23) Ergun, Nazan; Ercişli, Sezai; Ergun, Muharrem
Wild edible plants (WEPs) continue to play a crucial role in rural food culture and biodiversity conservation in Türkiye, particularly in ecologically diverse regions such as in Bingöl Province. This review aimed to document and synthesize information on wild plant species traditionally collected and consumed as vegetables in Bingöl. A total of 21 species were identified through a review of regional ethnobotanical literature and validated with local knowledge, with emphasis on women's roles in transmission. Details are given for each species, with the scientific and local names, edible parts, preparation methods, harvesting times, and habitats. The review concludes that the majority of these plants are harvested during the spring and early summer months and are subsequently prepared through boiling, sautéing, or incorporation into traditional culinary preparations, including soups, pastries such as börek, and yoghurt-based dishes. Some of the most utilized species are Urtica dioica, Malva neglecta, Rumex tuberosus, and Allium ampeloprasum. The review highlights the significance of these plants in seasonal diets, traditional ecological knowledge, and local biodiversity. Furthermore, this review draws special attention to the urgent need to preserve traditional ecological knowledge in the context of environmental degradation and social and cultural change.

(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2025-07-11) Hazarhun, Gülden; AŞIK, BARIŞ BÜLENT; Dorak, Saliha; Ziraat Fakültesi; Toprak Bilimi ve Bitki Besleme Bölümü; 0000-0001-8395-6283; 0000-0001-5699-5690
The aim of this study was to determine changes in the fruit nutrient content of 10 different blueberry varieties commonly grown in various regions using 3 different growing media (soil (Media 1), peat (Media 2) and commercial cocopeat (Pellemix) (Media 3). In the study, 2-year-old seedlings of Bluegrop, Bluegold, Bluejay, Chandler, Darrow, Duke, Jubilee, Patriot, Brigitta and Elliott varieties were used as well as the yield and mineral nutrient content of berry samples. The study was conducted between 2021 and 2023. According to the results obtained; It was determined that the average yield varied between 561.8 g and 1386.6 g depending on the difference in variety. Blueberry fruits contain the most nitrogen and potassium. Nitrogen content of berries was 80.6 to 221.7 mg 100 g-1, phosphorus content was 16.9 to 25.9 mg 100 g-1, potassium content was 50.3 to 76.5 mg 100 g-1, Ca content was 10.41 to 22.01 mg 100 g-1, Mg content was 5.11 to 10.03 mg 100 g-1, Na content was 2.32 to 7.67 mg 100 g-1, Fe content was 0.390 to 0.592 mg 100 g-1, Mn content was 0.161 to 0.503 mg 100 g-1, Cu content was 0.067 to 0.349 mg 100 g-1, Zn content was 0.166 to 0.329 mg 100 g-1, B content varied between 0.032 and 0.109 mg 100 g-1. Considering the yield and plant nutrient content obtained in the study, it was seen that the organic growing media evaluated as Media 2 gave the best results. Differences of the varieties were evaluated in relation to variety characteristics.

Students with special needs in teaching Turkish as a foreign language: Affective and instructional challenges
(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2025-03-10) Boylu, Emrah; Süğümlü, Üzeyir
Individuals with special needs, despite being active participants in social life, are often marginalized in the second or foreign language learning process. This study addresses this gap by examining teachers' experiences instructing learners with special needs in Turkish as a foreign language. These experiences are essential for developing an inclusive foreign language teaching process and serve as an effective roadmap for identifying the educational needs of individuals with special needs and the necessary interventions. This qualitative study employs a phenomenological research design and involves ten teachers selected through criterion sampling. These teachers share the common characteristics of working with students with special needs learning Turkish as a foreign language. In the study, teacher experiences were analyzed across six themes: diagnosis of students with special needs, emotional states of students with special needs, obstacles encountered by instructors during the teaching process, classroom environment and peer relations, obstacles faced by students with special needs during instruction, and instructor suggestions. The findings reveal that the teachers were eager to develop professionally, highly motivated to teach, sensitive to differences, and possessed diverse skill sets. However, they faced significant challenges, including difficulties in diagnosing students with invisible disabilities, managing classrooms, sourcing or creating appropriate materials, planning specialized instruction for various disabilities, and conducting effective assessments and evaluations. Besides, these teachers reported insufficient academic and administrative support to help them to address these challenges.

An investigation of the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Beck Hopelessness Scale - Short Form (BHS-7)
(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2025-05-15) Türk, Nuri; Batmaz, Hasan; Özmen, Mustafa; Özdemir, Mehmet
Hopelessness is considered one of the key constructs in the field of mental health, closely related to various psychological variables such as suicide and depression. The Beck Hopelessness Scale has been widely used to measure hopelessness for nearly 40 years. More recently, short forms of this scale have been developed. This study aimed to adapt the Beck Hopelessness Scale - Short Form (BHS-7), developed by Pretorius and Padmanabhanunni (2024), to Turkish culture. A convenience sampling method was employed, and the sample consisted of 407 individuals aged 18 and above. The Beck Hopelessness Scale - Short Form, Depression Scale and Satisfaction with Life Scale were used as data collection tools. To assess validity, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted to examine the scale's structure within the Turkish context, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to verify the structure. Additionally, evidence for measurement invariance across gender, criterion-related validity, and convergent and divergent validity was presented. The results confirmed the unidimensional structure of the original seven-item scale within the Turkish sample. Measurement invariance results revealed that groups can be compared according to gender. According to the criterion validity results, positive significant relationships were found between hopelessness and depression, while negative significant relationships were found between hopelessness and life satisfaction. Reliability analysis demonstrated that the internal consistency coefficient was at an acceptable level. Consequently, the Turkish adaptation of the Beck Hopelessness Scale – Short Form (BHS-7) was found to be a valid and reliable tool for assessing hopelessness in adult populations.
