The research was performed in 76 orchards. The pear cultivars were `Deveci' and 'Santa Maria' in towns of Bursa province. To determine levels of pollution, soils and aboveground parts (leaf, fruit flesh and fruit peel) of the trees were sampled and analysed for some metals. Total amounts of Cr were found to be at the excessive levels in soils. Nickel concentrations were slightly higher than the permissible ranges in minority of the soils. Contrarily, their concentrations in the different plant parts were not at the toxic level. Because of lack of standard concentrations indicating excessive concentration of extractable elements, statuses of extractable elements in the soils were not evaluated. Metal accumulation in the trees were not estimated by both leaf and fruit analysis. As a result, the appearance of metals in soils might be due to agricultural activities and parent material. Continuous monitoring and future studies of the pear orchards are recommended to ascertain long-term impacts of pollution on the trees.Item A multicenter randomised study comparing the efficacy of pegylated interferon-alfa-2a plus adevofir dipivoxil vs. pegylated interferon-alfa-2a plus placebo vs. adevofir dipivoxil for the treatment of chronic delta hepatitis: The hep-net/international delta hepatitis intervention trial (HID-IT)(Wiley, 2006-10) Yurdaydın, Cihan; Wedemeyer, Heiner; Dalekos, George; Erhardt, Alexander; Çakaloğlu, Y.; Değertekin, H.; Zeuzem, Stefan; Zachou, Kalliopi; Bozkaya, Hakan; Gürel, S.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/İç Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı/Gastroenteroloji Bilim Dalı.Item A phase III, partially double-blinded study evaluating the efficacy and safety of peginterferon alfa-2a (40KD) (PEGASYS (R)) alone or in combination with lamivudine vs lamivudine in 546 patients with HBeAg-negative/anti-HBe-positive chronic hepatitis B.(Wiley, 2003-10) Marcellin, P.; Lau, G.; Bonino, F.; Farci, P.; Hadziyannis, S.; Jin, R.; Lu, Z.; Piratvisuth, T.; Germanidis, G.; Yurdaydın, C.; Diago, M.; Lai, M.; Button, P.; Pluck, N.; Gürel, S.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi.; AAH-5364-2019; ABI-3764-2020Item Profound on-treatment viral suppression with peginterferon alfa-2a (40KD) (PEGASYS (R)) plus lamivudine combination therapy limits the development of YMDD mutations, but does not improve sustained response rates over peginterferon alfa-2a (40KD) alone(Wiley, 2004-10) Germanidis, G.; Marcellin, P.; Lau, G.; Bonino, F.; Farci, P.; Hadziyannis, S.; Jin, R.; Yao, G.B.; Piratvisuth, T.; Yurdaydın, C.; Diago, M.; Lai, M.Y.; Popescu, M.; Pluck, N.; Gürel, S.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi.Item The relationship between c-erbB-2 oncogene expression and clinicopathological factors in gastric cancer(Cambridge Med Publ, 1999) Gürel, S.; Dolar, Mahmut Enver; Yerci, Ömer; Samlı, B.; Öztürk, H.; Nak, Selim Giray; Gülten, Macit; Memik, Faruk; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Gastroenteroloji Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Patoloji Anabilim Dalı.; AAG-9177-2021Gastric carcinoma is one of the most common carcinomas and a leading cause of death from cancer in Turkey. The relationship between clinicopathological features of the disease and oncogenes is under investigation. In this retrospective study we investigated the relationships between expression of c-erbB-2 oncoprotein and grade, stage and pathological characteristics of the tumour, and prognosis. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections were prepared from gastrectomy specimens from 55 patients with gastric carcinoma. The tissue sections were stained immunohistochemically to reveal c-erbB-2 protein. Six (10%) of the tumours stained positively for c-erbB-2 protein. There was no statistically significant association (P > 0.5) between c-erbB-2 staining and tumour grade, stage or pathological characteristics (necrosis, lymph-node infiltration), or between staining and prognosis. The results suggest that overexpression of c-erb-B-2 protein is not related to the pathological characteristics of the tumour in gastric carcinoma and is not an important prognostic indicator.Publication The role of immunohistochemical staining with ck7 in the differential diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis(Comenius Univ, 2019-01-01) Adım, S. In the literature, some studies suggest that a group of cells having dual morphologic and immunophenotypic characteristics of bile duct epithelium and hepatocytes, referred to as progenitor stem cells, was stained positive with CK7.MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, we examined a total of 219 cases diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis, chronic hepatitis B, chronic hepatitis C, and primary biliary cholangitis between 2005 and 2017 in Uludag University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Pathology.RESULTS: The comparisons of AIH cases with HepB, HepC and PBC cases demonstrated that the immunoreactivity to CK7 was significantly higher in the AIH group (p < 0.005) compared to the groups of HepB and HepC, whereas no significant differences were found between the AIH and PBC groups.CONCLUSIONS: In our study, it was concluded that the immunoreactivity to CK7 could be used as an adjuvant treatment to the clinicopathologic assessment in distinguishing between the AIH cases and chronic viral hepatitis. However, since CK7 immunoreactive hepatocytes were widely detected also in patients with chronic viral hepatitis, and there was no statistically significant difference between the PBC and AIH cases, it has been established that the inclusion of CK7 immunoreactivity into the diagnostic histopathological criteria for AIH would not be convenient (Tab. 1, Fig. 1, Ref. 22).
