Item Patrimonialism in modernisation: A comparative essay to interpret Russian and Turkish political cultures(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2019-02-04) Kanadıkırık, Halil; Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü; Siyaset Bilimi ve Kamu Yönetimi BölümüThe concept of patrimonialism, improved for describing the legitimate political authorities of pre-modern societies, has recently begun to attract top social science scholars with its appearances in modern societies. In this article the political cultures of Russia and Turkey which have similarities relating to history, geography and political behaviors are analysed within the scope of patrimonialism as well. Both political structures that have been worldsystems-in-themselves in history, have also transferred the patrimonial culture of their imperial past to modern state-building. Even in the radicalization phases of modernization in both states’ histories, patrimonialism has manifested itself in the behaviour of political elites and the popular acceptance of them. It would be useful to consider patrimonialism as a dominant factor in approaching the actual problems like democratization in such political cultures.Item Structural equation modeling analysis of mediator role of fear of negative evaluation in foreign language anxiety(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2018-12-11) Aral, Neşe; Arlı, Nuran Bayram; İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi; Ekonometri BölümüIn this research main goal is to show the mediator role of the fear of negative evaluation in student’s sense of self-efficacy in the effect of foreign language anxiety. For this purpose structural equation modeling was performed. Goodness of fit index of the model which is X2/df=1.665; RMSEA= 0.08; SRMR=0.08 identified within acceptable limits. Fear of negative evaluation according to the structural equation model has been observed to have a mediator effect on foreign language anxiety. As a result of the model, it has been concluded that self- efficacy affects fear of negative evaluation negatively (β=-0.79); fear of negative evaluation affects foreign language anxiety positively (β=0.50), and achievement affects foreign language anxiety negatively (β=-0.25). However, it has been concluded that self- efficacy affects foreign language anxiety indirectly in a negative direction (β=-0.33). In this study among factors affecting foreign language anxieties of students, the fear of negative evaluation and self-efficacy have been found to have important effects.Item Which firms outperform the others under uncertainty: Revisiting Miles and Snow typology(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2019-03-10) Saraç, Mehlika; İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi; İşletme BölümüEconomic crisis are the most transformative events that create uncertain environment for the firms. 2008 Global Financial Crisis was one of the worst financial crises since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It has affected organizations in Turkey mostly in 2008 and 2009 and has caused a highly uncertain environment for firms from all industries. Although faced to very similar conditions, organizations responded to crisis differently and had different consequences. The aim of this study is to investigate the strategic behavior of organizations (based on Miles and Snow’s Typology) in metal products and machinery industry and find out which strategy outperform the others in terms of performance (ROA) under uncertainty during the crisis time.
