Measuring qol in doganbey urban transformation area in bursa, Turkey
(Open House Int, 2019-03-01) Gür, Miray; Taneli, Yavuz; Dostoğlu, Neslihan; GÜR, MİRAY; Mimarlık Fakültesi; Mimarlık Bölümü; 0000-0001-7619-7733; A-3351-2019; AAG-9495-2021
This study aims to measure the quality of life (QoL), using the proposed conceptual model within the context of the interactions between human behaviour and the environment. It aims to research the effect of the control of residents on QoL, and the findings constitute the basis for a discussion on the effects of environmental policies on QoL. Doganbey in Bursa, which is in close proximity to the Khans (Inns) District, is selected as the study area because it represents an urban transformation implemented according to administrative decisions. QoL measurements in the research reflect people's evaluations, their adaptation to post-transformation environment and the implementation process by means of questionnaires and in-depth interviews. The findings indicate that lack of resident control has an adverse effect on satisfaction and QoL, and that an urban transformation conducted without user participation will fail. In conclusion, the study aims to contribute to decision-making mechanisms within the framework of residents' influence to ensure increased QoL. The intention of the authors is to promote the usage of QoL scale developed for other housing or transformation areas by modifying the questions according to varying geographies and social groups.

Inversion of urban transformation approach in Turkey into family-friendly transformation
(Springer, 2019-09-01) Gür, Miray; GÜR, MİRAY; Mimarlık Fakültesi; Mimarlık Bölümü; 0000-0001-7619-7733; A-3351-2019; AAG-9495-2021
The factors of economic value increases, quantitative dimension of physical requirements, organization and legal structuring come to the forefront in the transformations in which cities are restructured by TOKI with government support in Turkey. Although the stated ultimate aim of these transformation projects is the social rehabilitation of residences, the implementations developed have failed to take into consideration the social life of the people, and moreover, because these implementations have also not been mindful of the quality of the living environments to which individuals are accustomed, the neighborhood culture is lost, the sense of belonging to social and physical environment disappears, and individuals are unable to adapt to the new living environments. In this context, this study evaluates the transformation approach from the family-friendly perspective that is compatible with the social structure and the lifestyle based on the neighborhood culture in Turkey. For this purpose, family-friendly settlements are conceptually examined; relevant results of the case study conducted on the socio-spatial effects, which have been reversed in the transformations implemented in line with the current policies, are discussed. The study results suggest that the lifestyle facilitated through a pre-transformation horizontal physical space organization that was close to city center could not be transferred to the post-transformation vertical settlements in the periphery, the social network is lost, the sense of insecurity spread, accessibility, affordability and suitability for raising children declined and so the transformations destroyed the former family-friendly neighborhood structure. In conclusion, recommendations were developed to rework the structures in the family-friendly transformations that are resident-and-family-oriented, appropriate to residents' lifestyles and capable of being socially and physically integrated within the city.

Post-pandemic lifestyle changes and their interaction with resident behavior in housing and neighborhoods: Bursa, Turkey
(Springer, 2022-06) Gür, Miray; GÜR, MİRAY; Mimarlık Bölümü; 0000-0001-7619-7733; AAG-9495-2021
COVID-19 pandemic has re-raised questions about healthy housing and residential environments. The aim of this study is to examine lifestyle changes during the pandemic and their reflections in the use of housing. The study also compares households on different socioeconomic levels in Bursa, the study area. Bursa is a Turkish metropolis that was affected by the spread of COVID-19. Data were collected from 500 residents of 30 neighborhoods in the city's three most populous districts, Osmangazi, Nilufer and Yildirim. The participants were selected using stratified sampling and interviewed face-to-face using questionnaires. Reliability analysis, frequency distributions, descriptive statistics, ANOVA and the chi-squared test were used to evaluate the data. The results indicate that the participants' hygiene habits, shopping behaviors, transportation habits and frequency of their contact with neighbors and friends have changed. Most of the participants live in apartments, and they need flexible designs that can be used for different purposes. They need toilets and ventilation spaces at the entrances of their homes. The use of balconies has increased. During the pandemic, the use of urban green spaces decreased in general, and the use of open areas around homes increased. High-income residents have advantages in terms of lifestyle, housing and residential environments, so their awareness about and observance of pandemic rules were higher. Lifestyles, housing, residential environments and urban opportunities differ as a result of socioeconomic segregation, and lower-income residents are more vulnerable to disease. Future studies should consider potential risks to humanity in order to address the housing-related problems of disadvantaged groups.

Interaction between life satisfaction and housing and neighborhood satisfaction: "privileged" housing areas in the city of Bursa, Turkey
(Springer, 2023-02-14) Murat, Dilek; Gür, Miray; Sezer, Filiz Şenkal; MURAT, DİLEK; GÜR, MİRAY; ŞENKAL SEZER, FİLİZ; Mimarlık Fakültesi; Mimarlık Bölümü,; 0000-0001-7619-7733; 0000-0002-8376-5177; Q-3337-2017; A-3351-2019; AAG-9495-2021
This study aims to analyze the effect of satisfaction with housing and neighborhood on the life satisfaction of residents with higher economic status living in gated communities, which are a symbol of a privileged lifestyle. In line with the aim, the study was conducted in the Balat neighborhood in the city of Bursa in Turkey where there are many gated communities, and the population is dominated by residents with high socioeconomic status. By employing the stratified sampling technique, data were collected from 217 residents living in six housing estates in this zone. The collected data were analyzed with respect to the given value and satisfaction of participants with their housing estate, their residence, and the features of the neighborhood, as well as their views on neighborhood relations, the characteristics of the housing area and neighborhood, their sense of belonging, and their general life satisfaction. The collected data were reviewed through reliability analysis, frequency distribution, descriptive statistics, and logistic regression analysis. The analysis that was executed in the gated community settlements where residents with a high socioeconomic status live in Balat showed that multiple dimensions, including housing, the housing area, and satisfaction with the neighborhood, combined to holistically affect individuals' life satisfaction levels. The study aims to offer a different perspective by linking life satisfaction with the living environment to offer a better quality of life (QoL), and a privileged and socially homogenous lifestyle. Finally, suggestions are provided so that the factors that increase life satisfaction can be researched and developed in different housing types for all income groups.

With the survey of quality of life conducted in the area, a much-debated case due to its physical, spcial, legal, admisnistrative and economical dimensions, the urban transformation process is semtinized in relation to the perception and experiences of individuals generated by the dynamic relationship between people and environment; and lack of user participation is emphasized related to cruciality of the right to prefer in life quality. Through Doganbey in which lack of participation caused physical, social and economical problems, this study adresses actors, decision mechanisms and participation; and based on the case study results, deductions are produced for improvement of quality of life through implementations that have similar qualities in terms of transformation dynamics.
