Abstract
The aim of the study is to determine the difference between the self assessment of patients who underwent septorhinoplasty (SRP) and assessment of the surgeons on the esthetic and functional outcome. Patients who underwent primary SRP were reached by phone and invited for a control. Patient satisfaction was assessed with a questionnaire. At the same time, surgeons assessed the patients blindly in aspects of shape of the nose and nasal breathing. 35 patients participated in the study. Mean follow-up duration was 17,42 months. The difference in nasal breathing was defined as worse by 3%, same by 20%, better by 48% and very good by 29% of the patients. Surgeons assessed the nasal breathing as same in 6%, better in 29% and very good in 65% of the patients. The difference in shape of the nose was defined as worse by 5,6%, mediocre by 2,8%, better by 51,6% and very good by 40% of the patients. Surgeons assesed the shape of the nose as mediocre in 17,1%, better in 51,6% and very good in 31,3% of the patients. Good comprehension of the expectatons of the patients and discussing the possible outcomes and complications of the SRP surgery with the patients would reduce the expectations of the surgeon and patient to a common denominator.
