Abstract
The infusion of hydrogen perokside solution into the quarter of cows with subclinical mastitis was performed and the efficacy of hydrogen peroxide therapy was evaluated. Hydrogen peroxide solution was infused into the quarter using teat catheter with plastic infusion tube. Eighty eight quarter of thirty four Holstein cows with subclinical mastitis were divided into two groups: 50 quarter were treated with hydrogen peroxide therapy, and 38 quarter were treated with isotonic sodium chloride therapy. California mastitis test scores, the mastitis causing pathogens, electronic conductivity of milk, pH of milk, somatic cell counts in milk and strip cup test signs of milk from hydrogen peroxide and isotonic sodium chloride treated quarters, were compared between the groups. Sixty seven percent (20/30) of infected quarters with subclinical mastitis treated with hydrogen peroxide therapy. Quarters infected with coagulase-negative staphylococci and Corynebacterium spp treated (11/12) and (8/8) respectively. Somatic treatment of quarters by hydrogen peroxide therapy was 74 % and statistically significant (p < 0,001) compared with isotonic sodium chloride therapy on 21 day post treatment. This newly developed hydrogen peroxide therapy method was proven to be especially effective for coagulase-negative staphylococci and Corynebacterium spp pathogens, and proven to be safe, and cost effective, and carries no risk of drug residues in milk.
