Abstract
Five of 168 dogs bred at the Anny Veterinary Research and Training Center at Gemlik, Bursa were found to be infected with Dirofian immilis (2.98 percent) by using Modified Knott method. The changes in the counts of microfilariae were studied after Ivem ectin therapy (200 mcglkg body wt. injected daily sc., in two consecutive days). Ivennectin decreased the cowıts down by 99.77 and 99.22 percent at average by comparing witlı the cowıts taken before treatments. Following these reductions, a temporary increase was observed and the efftcacy rates were 97.79, 95.03, 94.50 and 94.04 percent by 120 th, 150 th, 180 th and 210 tlı days respectively. And a final application of the drug at the same dose and route resulted in 99.96 % reduction of microfilarial counts. With these results Ivemıectin was considered aslıglıly effective microfilaricid chemotlıerapeutic drug for the treatment of Dirofilariosis in dogs. And exlıibited no side effects at tlıe dosage and route of administration used here.
